ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. The "Joys and Sorrows Committee" chaired by Thelma Brown will make sure any of our members who are experiencing one of life's milestones receives an appropriate message from the society. If you are aware of any club members who are celebrating a significant occasion, or experiencing a difficult time, please give Thelma a call at 433-1238

2. Anyone finding a dead bird is encouraged to pass the specimen on for educational purposes. There are 2 groups interested in any findings, even if they are damaged. Gay Hanson at Mount Allison University is interested - the birds can either be dropped off at the Canadian Wildlife Service in Sackville, or to the Biology building on campus. (This is the Flemington Building).

Another interested group is at the St. John Museum. Dan McAlpine just asks that they be notified first if you plan to bring a specimen in, so they can make the reception people aware.

Specimens should be labelled with your name and phone number as well as the date and time of collection.

3. I am a provincial wildlife biologist responsible for the southeast quarter of New Brunswick, and have a couple of requests specific to this area.

I would appreciate any locational information on Great Blue Heron nesting colonies you may have, so that protection of these sites may be considered. The second request originates from U.P.E.I. and pertains to heavy metal level monitoring on the carcasses of fish eating birds. Dr. Daoust has noted that he has inadequate samples of loon, heron, cormorant, osprey and eagle from New Brunswick, while samples from the other maritime provinces are better.

Thanks for your assistance.

Joe Kennedy, DNRE, Hampton, (506) 832-6055
